Acid Base Titration Process Procedure and Techniques

Acid Base Titration

Acidimetry and Alkalimetery

Acidimetry: When you determine the molarity or concentration of a base using a standardized acid the titration is called acidimetry.

Alkalimetry: When you determine the molarity or concentration of an acid using a standardized base the titration is called alkalimetry.

Acid base indicators

Phenolphthalein pH range 8.3 to 10 Clear in acid pink in base

Bromothymol blue pH range Yellow in acid blue in base

Methyl Orange pH range 3.1 to 4.4 Red in acid Orange in base

Methyl Red  pH range 4.2 to 6.3 Red in acid Yellow in base

How to prepare a standard solution of NaOH

NaOH is not a primary standard so a solution of approximate concentration can be prepared and this solution should be standardized using a standard acid.
